Chicago 6 MPH over speed limit enforced

Speed camera violation limits by state

Measured in miles per hour (mph), can vary depending on the country, state, or local jurisdiction. Speed limits and enforcement practices are set by the respective authorities, and they can differ significantly.

For example, in the United States, speed limits and speed camera regulations are determined at the state or local level. The violation limit can vary from one jurisdiction to another. In some states, the violation threshold might be set at around 10 mph over the posted speed limit, while in others, it could be lower or higher.

  • Chicago, Illinois is set at 6 miles per hour (mph) over the posted speed limit. This means that if you are caught by a speed camera exceeding the speed limit by 6 mph or more, you may receive a citation.
  • New York City is set at 10 miles per hour (mph) over the posted speed limit. If a vehicle is detected by a speed camera exceeding the speed limit by 10 mph or more in a designated school zone, a violation may be issued.
  • Georgia is set at 10 miles per hour (mph) over the posted speed limit. If a vehicle is captured by a speed camera exceeding the speed limit by 10 mph or more, a violation may be issued.
  • Maryland is generally set at 12 miles per hour (mph) over the posted speed limit. If a vehicle is detected by a speed camera exceeding the speed limit by 12 mph or more, a violation may be issued.
  • Phoenix, Arizona is generally set at 11 miles per hour (mph) over the posted speed limit.
  • Iowa speed cameras are enforced at 11 miles per hour (mph)
Michigan state law says 5 miles per hour (mph) but they don't have any automated photo enforcement.

Chicago, Illinois speed camera fines are as follows:
  • Speeding 6 to 10 mph over the posted speed limit: $35 fine
  • Speeding 11 or more mph over the posted speed limit: $100 fine
It's important to note that these fine amounts may be subject to change. Additionally, other fees or surcharges may apply depending on the specific circumstances of the violation.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on speed camera violation fines in Chicago, it is recommended to consult the official website of the City of Chicago or contact the appropriate authorities, such as the Chicago Department of Finance or the Chicago Police Department. They will be able to provide you with the most current and accurate information regarding speed camera violation fines in the city.

A measure that would have repealed that portion of the law was delayed in a City Council meeting that devolved into a dramatic battle between Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her staunchest council critics.
