The South Dakota state House Committee on the Judiciary threw its support Monday behind a statewide ban on red light
traffic cameras. The committee voted 10-3 to send HB 1161 to the full House. If passed, the bill from Rep. Peggy Gibson, D-Huron, would ban the use of automated traffic enforcement at all intersections in South Dakota. Fifteen states and at least 10 cities have banned the camera systems, and she argued that the people in South Dakota shouldn't have to wait for more cities to install cameras before acting in their interest.
