It appears that red-light cameras will soon make their way to Connecticut, marking a significant development in traffic enforcement.  There is a long history of these cameras trying to make it through legislation in CT.  Here is the anticipated fine system associated with the introduction of these cameras, shedding light on the potential consequences for violators.  Here is a current Map of Connecticut Traffic Cameras.

Connecticut residents should prepare for the impending arrival of red-light cameras throughout the state. This new traffic enforcement measure aims to enhance road safety and deter red-light violations. In anticipation of the implementation, it is crucial for individuals to be aware of the proposed fine structure governing these automated systems.

Fines for Red-Light Violations:

  1. Minor Infraction: First Offense: A fine of $100 will be imposed for a minor violation captured by the red-light camera system. This initial penalty serves as a warning to encourage compliance with traffic regulations.
  2. Subsequent Offenses: Second Offense: Individuals found guilty of a second red-light violation within a designated period will face a fine of $150. Repeat offenders should take this increased penalty seriously, as it reflects a stronger enforcement stance.
  3. Serious Infraction:  Third Offense and Beyond: Any subsequent offenses beyond the second violation will result in a fine of $200. It is crucial for drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic signals to avoid the mounting consequences associated with repeated infractions.
  4. Points on Driving Record: In addition to the fines, red-light violations captured by the automated cameras will also result in two points being added to the offender's driving record. Accumulation of points can have adverse effects on insurance premiums and may lead to the suspension of driving privileges.

Public Awareness and Notification:

To ensure transparency and public awareness, the Connecticut Department of Transportation plans to implement an educational campaign about the arrival of red-light cameras. This initiative aims to inform the community about the new enforcement measures and encourage compliance with traffic regulations. Additionally, signage will be placed near intersections where red-light cameras are in operation, notifying drivers of their presence.

With the imminent arrival of red-light cameras in Connecticut, drivers should familiarize themselves with the proposed fine system and get to know the different types of cameras already being used.  See our maps.
