Did You Get a Photo Enforced Ticket? I Saw A Flash

Four of the most common questions I receive from visitors are the following with regards to “I saw a flash, did I get a photo enforced ticket?” Most of these cases below DO NOT result in a violation for the following reason. To receive a red light camera violation most cameras require the vehicle to be traveling through the intersection at a minimum speed.

1) I saw a flash when making a left turn.
2) I saw a flash when making a right turn on red.
3) I was stopped in the middle of the intersection due to stopped traffic in front of me.
4) I stopped my car over the crosswalk line.

How long does it take to get a photo-enforced ticket in the mail? Usually five business days it will be mailed to the registered vehicle owner if a positive match can be identified.

A flash from a traffic light is most likely not a red light camera.

A speed camera flash is a visual indication that a vehicle's speed has been captured. It is not a guarantee that a speeding ticket will be issued, but it is a warning that the vehicle's speed has been recorded.
Some cameras do not flash and there is no state law requiring them to. Many municipalities prefer cameras that do not flash since it is easier to catch speeding and reckless drivers if they don't think they have a chance of being caught.

A traffic ticket will then be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
